Onodi Cell Mucocele ‐Associated Optic Neuropathy: with Staphylococcus cohnii. Case report and review of literature.

Abstract
Purpose: To present a rare case of Onodi cell mucocele associated optic neuropathy, infected by Staphylococcus cohnii with a review of the literature.
Methods: A 50-year-old female presented with a 3 months history of progressive deterioration of vision in his left eye. Ophthalmic examination and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) were consistent with an Onodi cell-associated compressive optic neuropathy.
Results: The patient underwent transcranial decompression via the left pterional extradural approach. A histological study showed a mucocele. The bacterial cultures taken from the lesion grew Staphylococcus cohnii. The outcome was favourable.
Conclusion: This report and associated literature review highlight the importance of the radiologic characteristics and early diagnosis in the final visual outcome of the Onodi cell-associated optic neuropathy. To our best knowledge, Staphylococcus cohnii has not yet been reported to infect Ondi cell mucocele in humans.
