Abstract
Background: The etiology of urinary tract infection (UTI) and their antibiotic sensitivity pattern vary from time to time and across different areas in India. This study is designed to analyse the antimicrobial resistance pattern in Escherichia coli causing urinary tract infection among children.
Aim: The aim of the study is to detect the antimicrobial resistance pattern in Escherichia coli causing urinary tract infection among children in
Material and Methods: It is a prospective study done in our department with culture positive for Escherichia coli in urine samples collected over a period of 3 months from paediatric group of patients.
Results: Among the 52 isolated uropathogenic E.coli, showed sensitivity to ampicillin n=1(2%),ciprofloxacin n=8(15%) norfloxacin n=10(19%), ceftriazone n=3(6%) ,cefipime n=2(4%), gentamicin n=8(15%) , Imipenem n=32(62%). Nitrofurantoin showed highest sensitivity of about 47( 90%).12 were ESBL producing and 3 were MBL producing.

Key words: UTI, pediatric, antibiotics, resistance, E.coli
