Migrating a small and sharp chicken bone from the esophagus into prevertebral muscles: A case report

I Wayan Sucipta, Ni Made Ary Wisma Dewi.

Abstract
Ingested foreign bodies are medical emergencies found in otolaryngologist practice. Extra-luminal migration of foreign bodies may cause serious vascular and suppurative complications. Reports of ingested foreign bodies penetrating the oesophagus and migrating through the neck are rare, and mostly involved fish bones. We reported a 34-year-old female who accidentally swallowed chicken bone in a soup. The swallowed chicken bone penetrated the oesophagus and became lodged in the prevertebral muscle. We successfully removed via cervical exploration, and the patient recovered well.

Key words: Foreign body, Migration, Extra-luminal, Esophagus
