High levels of CRP in brain tumor patients with COVID-19 infection

I Gusti Ayu Agung Aria Tristayanthi, Anak Agung Ayu Putri Laksmidewi.

Abstract
Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly contagious and deadly disease. Since December 2019, the number of COVID-19 cases has rapidly reported from around the world. Initial serology rapid tests for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies showed a significant number of false negatives results. Other markers are needed so that the medical worker is more sensitive to the suspicion of a COVID-19 infection. This study aimed to assess the high levels of CRP in brain tumor patients as a biomarker of COVID-19 infection.
Eleven brain tumor patients were going to undergo tumor surgery. The SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were negative. There were also no initial symptoms of COVID-19 infection, and patients were scheduled to undergo elective surgical removal of the tumor. During a routine preoperative, we performed the PCR nasopharyngeal swab. All the patients were positive for COVID-19 infection. We also found increased serum CRP levels in all patients.

Key words: High level of CRP, COVID-19, Brain tumor
