Abstract
Background: Trichobezoar is a foreign body in the gastrointestinal tract which consists of a clot of hair. Especially occurs in children and adolescents who suffer from trichophagia. Trichobezoar is commonly found in the stomach.
Case Description: Report of cases of 12-year-old girls, experiencing trichotillomania and trichophagia, which causes the formation of trichobezoar. Complaints in the form of a lump in the upper left abdomen especially enlarged after eating. An abdominal CT scan, a picture of a foreign body in the stomach is thought to be a trichobezoar. Laparotomy was performed, and trichobezoar was found. The patient recovered well and was consulted to the Psychiatry department for psychiatric therapy
Conclusion: Trichobezoar should be considered a diagnosis in young women with a palpable mass in the stomach, nausea, vomiting, and psychiatric disorders. Most cases of trichobezoar require surgical therapy, also require long-term treatment and psychiatric monitoring to prevent the trichobezoar recurrence.
